Google unveils new cybersecurity AI tool capable of reverse-engineering malware attacks

In a recent blog post, Google announced its new cybersecurity product, Google Threat Intelligence. This product will integrate the efforts of its Mandiant cybersecurity unit and VirusTotal threat intelligence with the Gemini AI model.

💾Who is it for? The new product, which uses the Gemini 1.5 Pro large language model, can be used by companies to analyze and respond to cybersecurity threats. Google claims that Gemini 1.5 Pro can significantly reduce the time required to reverse engineer malware attacks. For instance, it took only 34 seconds for Gemini 1.5 Pro to analyze the WannaCry virus and identify a kill switch.

In addition to analyzing malware, Google plans to use Gemini in Threat Intelligence to summarize threat reports into natural language. This feature will help companies assess the potential impact of threats and make informed decisions on how to respond.

🖱️Are there any limitations? Yes. Although AI models can aid in summarizing threats and reverse engineering malware attacks, they themselves can become targets for malicious actors. These threats may involve "data poisoning," where bad code is added to the data that AI models scrape, making them unable to respond to specific prompts.

AI startup Alembic develops hallucination-free AI system

😵News - Alembic, an artificial intelligence startup, has developed a new AI system that it claims completely eliminates the generation of false information, a phenomenon known as "hallucinations," commonly seen in AI models today.

🔍How so? To achieve this, Alembic created its own supercomputer infrastructure and developed new mathematical techniques to represent enterprise data as time-aware graph neural networks. Essentially, they built a giant network of interconnected nodes that mimic the way different parts of a business interact over time.

Imagine the enterprise data as a huge 3D web, where each node represents a different aspect of the business, like customer interactions or sales data. Alembic's AI doesn't just look for patterns in this data; it understands the cause-and-effect relationships between different events.

For example, it can understand why certain marketing strategies lead to increased sales, or how customer interactions affect overall business performance. By understanding these relationships, the AI can predict the outcome of future actions and even recommend the best course of action to achieve a desired goal.

In a nutshell, what sets Alembic's AI apart is its ability to not only learn from historical data but also to accurately simulate the potential impact of future actions. This capability, built on Alembic's custom "foundational model," allows the AI to provide precise predictions and recommendations, effectively eliminating the generation of false information, or "hallucinations," that plague other AI systems.

The rise of AI-voiced audiobooks

📖News - According to a new report, AI voices are now replacing professional human narrators on digital bookshelves. 

This AI audiobook revolution, started by Amazon, has seen over 40,000 AI-narrated titles flood onto Audible, Amazon's audiobook platform, since the company first announced their beta tool last year, allowing self-published authors to generate AI "virtual voice" narrations for their ebooks.

👥Public opinion - Reactions to this new tool are mixed. While some, like author George Steffanos, prefer human-generated audiobooks, they acknowledge the financial constraints. According to one blogger mentioned in the report, converting an ebook to audio using the AI narration took just 52 minutes, bypassing the expensive studio recording process.

Despite the convenience of AI-generated audiobooks, not everyone is thrilled. Some listeners complain that there's no option to filter out AI narrations when browsing Audible's catalog, even though they are clearly labeled. Furthermore, human narrators are worried about potential job losses as AI technology improves. Narrator Ramon de Ocampo warned on social media about Amazon's virtual voice, saying, "It's not taken all the jobs. But it's trying to."

📚Our take: The tensions at play highlight the different priorities and trade-offs facing each group. But in the end, as AI-voiced audiobooks continue to flood Audible, finding the right balance between keeping things creative and making money will become increasingly important.
